Once upon a time, there was a tortoise who loved to rest.
It moved very slowly.
It liked to stay in one place.
It did not like to travel.
The tortoise had a small home. It felt safe there.
“Home is the best place,” the tortoise often said.

One day, there was exciting news.
A grand celebration was happening.
It was a joyful wedding.
All creatures were invited.
Birds flew through the sky.
Animals walked together.
Even the trees seemed to sway with happiness.
Everyone was getting ready.
“Come with us!” said the rabbit.
“It will be fun!” said the deer.
“There will be a big feast!” said the birds.
The tortoise listened.
Then it slowly shook its head.
“I will stay here,” it said.
“I like my home. I do not want to go far.”
The other animals looked at each other.
“Alright,” they said, and went on their way.

The day of the celebration was bright and lively.
Music filled the air.
Laughter echoed everywhere.
The tables were full of delicious food.
All the creatures enjoyed the wedding.
But far away, the tortoise stayed at home.
It sat quietly.
It looked around its small space.
“I am happy here,” it said softly.

The next day, everything was calm again.
God walked through the land and met the tortoise.
“Why did you not come to the celebration?” God asked.
The tortoise lifted its head slowly.
“I like my home,” it said.
“I feel happy here. I do not want to leave it.”
God looked at the tortoise.
The land had been full of joy, and the tortoise had missed it.
“You care only about staying still,” God said gently.
“You did not want to make the effort.”
The tortoise said nothing.
── ★ ──
Then God spoke again.
“If you love your home so much,” He said,
“you will carry it with you wherever you go.”
A quiet moment passed.
Then something changed.
A hard shell formed on the tortoise’s back.
The tortoise blinked slowly.
It tried to move.
The shell moved with it.
It could not leave it behind.
── ★ ──
From that day on, the tortoise carried its home everywhere.
It walked slowly across the land.
Step by step.
It could no longer stay in one place forever.
And wherever it went, its home went with it.
